Some people would prefer to be buried in a mausoleum rather than in a grave in the ground. Mausoleums are buildings that contain a crypt or many crypts and in which people are laid to rest. Some mausoleums are tombs in which only one person is buried but other mausoleums are places where many people are laid to rest and where people continue to be laid to rest. Before some people die, they contact a mausoleum and reserve a place for their remains. The families of other people who have died contact the mausoleum about laying their family member to rest there. Some mausoleums are located within cemeteries while others are located within cathedrals or other places of worship. Some mausoleums only allow people of certain religions to be buried there while others are more inclusive as to who can be laid to rest there.

Few people like to think about their death or burial, but doing so is important because it relieves your family of the burden. If you do not want an underground burial site, then you might choose a mausoleum instead that has a personal sarcophagus for your body. These burial vaults are often connected to Christian churches, cathedrals, chapels, and funeral homes. Some of them are rather simple buildings. Each person has their own little space just like a graveyard. Others, however, have large monuments and contain personal information about those buried inside the stone structures. If you prefer being buried in a tomb that is surrounded by a park, then a mausoleum might be a good choice for you. When you contact a monument company, you will need to make sure that you can make arrangenments to have your body transported from the funeral home to the personal burial chamber. Ask them what types of memorials they offer visitors. Some of them include your name etched into a piece of brass or other metal. If you are willing to pay for a larger stone, though, you might be able to get a more personalized memorial with your information on the tomb. The decision largely depends on how much money you want to spend and what kind of message you want to communicate with your vault. Money is an important consideration, even when you are planning for your grave site, so be sure to ask the companies to give you written price quotes that include maintenance of the seal and grounds.
